However, Gaggle strengthened their requirements which is why we added the first three letters of their last names to the password, so it may be enough for Google as well now (I can't remember the requirements). We use GAFE which has a stronger requirement, but because the student GAFE accounts are provisioned through the student email provider (Gaggle) they have a way of creating the accounts with less secure passwords than what Google requires. We used to just use student ID because it was unique, already in the SIS (making it easy for the program that automatically provisions user accounts to set their passwords), and they were already using it for their cafeteria code. It really is surprising how fast the little people pick it up.Ĭurrently our students (K-12) use their student ID plus the first three letters of their last name. Some keep a binder or create cards for the little guys that have a screenshot and their logins and password on the screenshot and the kids can just type in what it says on the screenshot. Our teachers have some cool methods for the younger ones. Since we do use the same password for everything, we have to keep it complicated for Apple ID and iPads. You can't do simple passwords through the CPanel. You can create simple passwords for the younger ones (if you like) using GAM (Google Apps Manager) or if you sync through AD however, you will want to change that at 3rd grade.

We have had issues with kids in grades 4 and up when our passwords were too simple the kids start to mess with each other when they figure out how to get in their accounts. I can tell you a district near us used the ID as a password and it got to be a problem as some kids figured out each other's passwords.

There is a password generator add-on in Google Sheets that works for us. This was a struggle for some of our teachers in 1st and 2nd grades (not the students as much) 4 years ago but, they have gotten used to it. We use one password for all systems across the grades starting at grade 1 for K and Pre-K we use generic logins.
